My name is Kayla-Marie Booker, a 17 year old San Digeo native, born and raised. Growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood as an African American young women, I became aware of the importance of representation and equitable care especially in spaces where I didn’t always feel fully seen. Through my involvement in community organizations like Blk girls who garden and Girls with Goals, I was introduced to the connection between health, community, and access. Being in those spaces sparked my interest in health, which later led me to explore dentistry. I am committed to challenge inequities in healthcare and becoming part of new generation of professionals who ensure that no one is undeserved, overlooked, or unHEARD.

Hi, My name is is Sofia Elmokadem, I am a 17 year old San Diego native. Growing up, I was a competitive figure skater who battled chronic, visual and endocrinological issues including POTS, Visual Midline Shift and PCOS. In my own health journey, I began to establish a love for neurology and science, an interest that has been greatly nurtured in the academic settings I surround myself in. Aside from my love for science and medicine, human rights and politics have been a significant part of my upbringing. As a Muslim, Middle Eastern girl in a predominantly white area, I began to recognize the disparities that demise so many of the communities that keep us afloat and from a young age I refused to accept that reality. In partnership with my very best friend of 10 Years, Kayla and I are not only excited but dedicated to creating a community that breeds advocacy, awareness and drive.
